IMS, March 2012

Its a great experience full of excitement for us in IMS, March 2012 . At the beginning of our 3rd semester classes Imran bhai, Siva and me presented our group work. There were lectures from the representatives of  Cenotec, Mehler which were very inspiring. Then Harry taught us how to weld fabric. That's a great experience for me. We have also installed a tensile fabric in IMS campus. Then we visited Novum factory, it was a huge experience for me as we saw how fabrics are fabricated specially ETFE foils. In total I can say that my experience during this semester in Dessau was full of excitements.

IMS, September 2011

We batch '11 at IMS
My visit to IMS in September 2011 was full of experiences. We visited Berlin, presented our projects, attended exams, lectures, enjoyed party. It started with the lost of my baggage in Istanbul, then it came after 3days later. We started our semester with Berlin tour, then in next day presentation of our projects were held. My presentation was well appreciated. After that day lecture series were held for 7days with exams, which was very exhausting for us. But after all I enjoyed every class specially James classes and pneumatic structure classes. Though days in IMS were very quick but i enjoyed it very much.

IMS, March 2011

Prof. Robert Off explaining a model.
In March 2011 at IMS institute for membrane & shell technologies, Dessau, Germany, we made a physical model for a given situation. Prof. Robert Off explained each model one by one about their problems and possibilities to improve them. It helped me a lot to clear my conception on membrane. The lab facilities are also good, every facilities are there to make a model. Prof. Off also showed us different parts of cable system, wire ropes which were used with membranes.

Tensile tour, March 2011 part02

Wittenberg rail station, Germany
During our tensile tour that day after visiting UFO and Parking shade in Dessau, we went to Wittenberg a nearby town of Dessau, where we visited Wittenberg rail station. The tensile structure here was huge compared to others we just visited. It was huge in every aspect but connection details, corner plates attracted me because of their huge size.

Then in the evening we went to Leipzig airport rail station. The tensile membrane structure here elegantly designed. I specially liked its beautifully designed rain water duct. The membrane was PTFE coated glass fibre. Among the tensile structures we visited that day, Leipzig airport rail station was my favorite.

Tensile tour, March 2011 part01

Professor Dr. Robert Off explaining on UFO
During my first semester in IMS, we travelled nearby cities to visit tensile membrane structures. We traveled Wittenberg, Dessau, Leipzig. We started from Dessau, where we visited a tensile UFO landed on a shopping mall and a parking ramp shade. UFO and the parking shade are designed by our beloved professor Dr. Robert Off. Here are some pictures of that UFO.....
